Core-Network To MT: Extensive customisation of our network

We will be carrying out extensive maintenance work on our network from 20 October 2024 from 00:30 to 02:30.

We are adapting the failover and VRRP principle in more detail, revising all of our routing configurations and commissioning additional backup solutions - in order to be able to provide improved options in the future.

This work is urgently needed due to the recent maintenance of our upstream.

During the maintenance process, there may be interruptions, timeouts and probable downtimes of the network infrastructure - as we also have to work on the failover principle and adapt and test all or optimal options.

--

Update from 20.10 - 03:57:

We have now applied our optimisations to our routers and tested VRRP. Our configurations are correct and have largely been implemented.

Apparently there is a NAT problem with our upstream, which means that the failover is not 100% effective. We are still waiting for feedback from our upstream in order to clarify the problem and possibly rectify it. An answer is pending.

Once we have received the response from our upstream, we will continue our work at night.

  • Our current upstream obviously doesn't want to identify and fix the problem.

We will be changing our provider in the coming week and will schedule a new maintenance appointment.

    Telephone system Telephone system malfunction

We are experiencing a total failure of our telephone system since Saturday, 07/29/2023. Apparently, our phone numbers are no longer known in the network and are designated as unknown or not assigned.

We are currently communicating this problem with our provider.

  • The problem has been solved.

  • Unfortunately, it is due to an error of the network operator.

Our provider was able to identify the problem and is implementing optimized routings to restore connectivity.

    Telephone system Increased timeouts

    ** Automatic status message **

Currently we are experiencing timeouts and higher pings to our placetel PBX. For this reason, we are only available by phone to a very limited extent.

We will make further observations. The NOC team has also been notified.

  • The problem has been fixed by placetel. Despite this, we will continue to make more detailed observations.

  • Status message on the part of placetel:

    • Identified: We are currently experiencing network issues in one of our data centers. This is affecting telephony services for some of our customers. The problem has been identified and we are working on a solution. We apologize for the inconvenience.

    • Update: We continue to work on fixing this issue.

Webhosting Short-term migration of the web servers (web & vweb01)

We will be migrating to an off-site data center at approximately 21:00 today.

We will do this option due to a cost factor and IPv6 support.

We will independently update all DNS zones to the new IP addresses, so we expect no problems here. We will synchronize both host systems for 24 hours to prevent DNS issues. During this time, no changes will be possible.

  • All services run top after a few days of monitoring.

However, combahton's Layer 7 DDoS protection is still causing some problems with our websites. This is because SSL certificates are overwritten and routed through the proxy, which has its own certificate. We still have to find a solution for this, but otherwise everything runs great after the migration and we can't complain.

  • The migration from our web server was a bit problematic at first, but we were able to fix the problem. All pages are now already routed on the new host system.

We will monitor the DNS zones for another 24 hours.

** vweb01 ** We have to start a new migration here as well, because we transferred some errors - which caused problems in the files. We will tackle this process within the next two hours.

  • We have just started the reinstallation of the new host system for our web server (web).

Which hopefully should be completed now. Because yesterday we could not migrate our internal data, due to combahton DDoS protection. Today, the problem should no longer exist and the migration should be completed without complications.

  • The transfer of vweb01 has just been completed. However, there may still be some HSTS errors, but this will fix itself.

  • At the moment, we are starting to transfer data to the new host systems. This can lead to longer loading times and process actions, since the performance is enormously stressed here.

The vweb01 is currently at 70%, our web server (web) is currently still at about 35%.
