Network failure at the NTT FRA01 site Thursday 15th February 2024 10:29

** Automatic status message **

Since today, at 10:29 a.m., we have been experiencing a network outage on the part of our provider. All services at this location are unavailable.

We have carried out long-term observations and have so far found hardly any further problems.

Our ISP has just issued the all-clear. However, we will continue to monitor the network for a further 36 hours.

Below is the translation of the message from our ISP: All services are available again. The cause of the disruption was a large-scale network attack on our infrastructure. This attack caused a disruption to our network infrastructure that initially did not clearly indicate an attack. The duration of the final disruption was therefore due to the fact that the attack did not clearly present itself as an attack and therefore triggered various other disruption messages in different network segments. The attack pattern used in this way is new, which is why our sensor systems did not provide any indication of an ongoing network attack.

We are currently working on a comprehensive RCA and will provide this to our customers.

We apologize for the inconvenience at this point. Our aim is to provide our customers with very high availability and network quality. We can only apologize for the fact that we were unable to meet this requirement today.

As we suspected, the problem is due to a switch stack - which our local ISP has just confirmed.

The message that just reached us: Unfortunately, the fault at the FRA1 site continues. The problem here is due to the upstream switch stack. Our network technicians are on site.

It seems that there is packet loss to various destinations or routes. The technicians at our ISP are already working on solving the problem.
